Improve Your Illumination

Because it is the image of the part that is measured, systems from RAM Optical Instrumentation offer VectorLight™ illuminators that use Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) to optimize the image of a staged part in exceptional bright white lighting. VectorLight units surround the metrology system’s zoom lens. Six concentric rings of white LEDs provide very high intensity illumination for strong feature definition, with virtually no heat to interfere with measurement. Depending on the RAM system, each ring is individually addressable using metrology software to control the angle of the light, and can be further divided into eight 45-degree sectors to control the direction. There are three models in the VectorLight series:


VectorLight (standard) is a compact illuminator about 34 mm thick. Its full ring-lighting capabilities improve visibility of low contrast features on complex parts in applications that require only oblique light.

VectorLight SF (optional) combines full ring- and surface-lighting capabilities. Surface illumination is provided by an LED source located slightly above and behind the ring LEDs, making this VectorLight 53 mm thick. The unit contains a beam splitter that directs light from the surface LED in line with the system’s optical axis.

VectorLight SP (optional) offers a combination of ring and surface illumination in the same compact form as the standard VectorLight (34 mm). To achieve this configuration, a segment of LEDs is removed and replaced by the surface-illuminating LED and its beam splitter, allowing the VectorLight SP to maintain a slim profile height.
